    In partnership with the Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities, SHRM Portage County invites you to join OOD's January Meeting titled:

    "Accessible Communications"


    ABOUT THE EVENT:  This is part of our SHRM Portqage County 2025 Diversity and Inclusion Learning Series. We are partnering with the Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities to provide business owners and HR professionals an understanding of the ways we can make our businesses more inclusive.  

    For this event, participants can learn and earn 1 SHRM PDC and/or 1 HRCI  Credit.

    ABOUT THE PRESENTATION: In this first session, the speakers will share best practices for creating communications that are accessible to everyone, including individuals with disabilities.

    Key takeaways for this session are:

    • The importantance of creating and distributing accessible communications
    • Guidelines and key elements that help to make materials accessible to a broader audience
    • Tools and resources available to prioritize accessibility and create accessible communications

    ABOUT THE SPEAKERS: Tanya K. Vela, OTR/L, ADAC is the Accessible Ohio Specialist for Southeast Ohio. In this role, Tanya supports Ohio’s businesses, communities, venues, and attractions to be accessible and inclusive through individualized consultations, education, and resources. In addition to being a registered and licensed occupational therapist with a bachelor’s degree, Tanya has a master’s degree in health care administration. She is also a certified Americans with Disabilities Act Coordinator.

    Julie Lasher is the Business Relations Specialist for Southeast Ohio with the Division of Employer and Innovation Services at Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities (OOD). In this role, Julie supports Ohio’s businesses in their efforts to hire and retain individuals with disabilities. Julie joined OOD in October 2022 and earned a bachelor’s degree in family and consumer sciences.
